Working out

Yeah...that whole running up and down the steps? Didn't really pan
out.
And I always think...well, I should just walk around the campus.
But getting myself motivated appears to be a problem.
On other fronts, I've managed to keep up with the eating of the
carrots. I figure..the less I eat, the better off I am.

Which works to a degree, except then you must throw in how the
metabolism works. More frequent, smaller meals is better.
I get that. It just seems like the more meals I eat, the better chance
I have of going overboard.
My day goes much like this..
I get up, walk Derek to school.
Come home and make coffee and have sensible, fiber-full cereal.
Usually I need a snack in between breakfast and lunch.
This ranges from somewhat healthy..like fruit...to a donut or
croissant when I am just hungry and want to eat NOW.
Today I had popcorn.
Lunch consists of a sandwich. That is ALL I eat for lunch. Either
lunch meat, or a peanut butter and honey, or egg salad. Not terribly
healthy, but I'm not sure what else to try.
Today there was some left over pizza and I had a piece of that.
For the rest of the day, I munch on my carrots. A single serving
package, running at 38 WHOLE calories.
Sometimes I will grab a slice of cheese..which are 3/4 ounce. Not even
a WHOLE OUNCE of cheese, dammit.
Then dinner....well, dinner is not usually so good. Dinner can be
spaghetti, and then you add the bread...and well. It can be quite bad.

Dinner feels like my bad meal of the day..but I'm not sure how to make
it better. For one thing, I don't cook. And we eat too much of the
processed food.

And my will power is usually good, until 10 or so. I KNOW this is a
bad time to eat and STILL I want something sweet at this point. I
fought it off last night.
But then I read helpful hints and all that crap and it says..I should
be eating like six times a day and even lays out the times. Starting
from 6 am - breakfast to 9 pm, a light snack.
Eating right before bed is bad, right?
I'm so confused...but maybe it keeps the metabolism up?

I don't understand it.
This week I have made a REALLY BIG concentrated effort to drink the
water.
Which is another point of confusion. Some people say 8 - 10 glasses a
day. Some people say that you also get water from your food, so you
probably don't need that much. Yet another source says that I should
be drinking HALF MY BODY WEIGHT in ounces of water a day.
That is like five liter bottles of water a day.
How do people do that and not live in the bathroom?
I hope my bladder gets used to it and soon, cause peeing every half
hour is kind of annoying.
I'm hoping if nothing else, the water drinking shall help my skin.
Maybe I shall not need so much of the lotion.
Maybe.

And I am trying really hard to realize that what I know in life to be
true applies to my weight. Life isn't fair. Yes, there are people who
can get away with eating whatever they want. I do not happen to be one
of them, obviously. I look at people daily and think..I DO NOT eat as
much as they do, how can I weigh this much?
Of course, I also eat more than some. It goes both ways, really.
I used to love working out at LCC. I love the machines. But I just
don't see myself making the time, when I feel like I don't have enough
time already, to go work out somewhere.
I wish I had a pool, cause I'm pretty sure you couldn't get me out of
it.
And that's GOOD exercise.
I wish a lot of things though.
I'm trying, at least...in small increments to get somewhere. I just
need to remember to keep adding new increments. Without adding things
on, how is it going to help?
Maybe next I shall add more vegetables and fruit into the mix,
Maybe...every time I buy fruit, no one eats it.
I should buy cantaloupe, I would eat that...or Watermelon. Watermelon
is yummy. But such a pain to prepare and too expensive prepared.
So...anyhow...I'm trying. And this is my update.
I'm not magically shrinking, like Karina. But I'm making an effort.
I'm just feeling discouraged lately.
I want to have cute clothes. *pout*

Magically shrinking is weird and disconcerting, and you saw all the things I'm doing, right?
I've been bad and stressed lately. Have you tried monitoring your sleep?
Lack of sleep and added stress helps produce cortisol, which turns into belly fat.

You're a beautiful woman, I don't want you to turn into diet-lady, but I admire the lifestyle changes you're making :)

Dinner idea: Chef salad. Set it out on the counter and everyone tosses what they want in a bowl. Add bread and voila- dinner! Easy, too.
Or, meat & veggies is easy. Do you have a crockpot? or would you be interested in learning how to use one? Can set "dinner" to cook and come home to it already done !
They're AMAZING!

The water thing- 64oz is the bare minimum. Half your body weight in ounces sounds about right, I was recommended half a gallon to a gallon of water per day to flush my system and stay hydrated. The idea is to keep your belly full with water so you eat less.
2ndary idea being that when you're thirsty, your body can interpret it as hunger.
We can be each others' support group!
I wanna be your neighbor :(

Tell that mean old woman to accept cats.

Snacking before bed isn't bad. When they say you should have a snack at 9 pm the idea is that if you eat a healthy snack then you won't be starving at 10pm and get up and scrounge whatever has the most sugar in it. Basically, the idea is that it keeps your blood sugar regulated. Food ups your sugar levels and your body balances that by producing insulin. The sugar gives you energy, but if it's not used it turns to fat. Some foods burn up quickly (simple carbs) some do a slow burn that lasts a while (complex carbs). So if you are eating something sweet at night you get a fast burn of energy that you don't use because you are about to go to bed, so it turns to fat, and when you wake up you are hungry. If you eat something that slow burns at night it'll keep your blood sugar up all night and you won't be so hungry in the morning and the energy will be burned even while sleeping. Plus, it's less of a strain on your pancreas to produce insulin to counteract the sugars.
Try snacks like Triscuits or Wheat Thins (they have whole grains and no trans fats), whole wheat breads, you can have toast!, any veggies are good, but be careful of fruits in the evening, they have quite a bit of sugar.
The main thing is to find a few items around the kitchen that you buy regularly, stop buying them and replace tham with something better. Like, white bread with wheat, or taquitos with corn chips. It's not a big change, but every little bit counts.

Karina - I am a zombie if I don't sleep at least seven hours a night. Uninterrupted? Sometimes. I sleep light. =(
I have a crockpot. The summer makes me want to eat cold stuff all the time though. And to have anything hot on sparingly. It sure doesn't make me want pot roast. Though I do love a good roast.
As for the belly being full of water, yes, definitely. Today I got up to the 5 litres, even before I got home. When I stop drinking the water, I get the heartburn. Which I guess makes me drink the water...but then I have to pee and I get up at night to pee.
Merf.
My landlord isn't mean, only crazy.

Ariel - OMYGOD! Taquitos. Actually we haven't had taquitos in a while. My sushi is my new favorite snack and luckily enough, it's far enough away that I don't want to walk. =)
Triscuits suck. Wheat thins are marginally better. I buy the cheap bread and unfortunately, I don't think the difference between white and wheat is so marked in cheap brands. I don't feel like the wheat makes me feel any better. But I buy it anyhow.
I do love me some corn chips. Mainly for the salt...and then I end up wanting melty cheese on them. It's either sugar or cheese with me. =S
Damn good cheese.
