"Little orphan Annie has on red stilleto heels, she says you love it, you love it, just gaze up at me as you..kneel"

There was a Daddie's concert last Thursday. The day before my child's 12th (When the fuck did THAT happen?) birthday. It was weird, seeing as how there was a Daddie's concert the night AFTER he was born, and he was born on a Thursday. I didn't go that one. Thankfully actually. A bunch of my friends got arrested hanging out in the graveyard after hours. I would have likely been with them had I not been recovering from a C-section. And had I not had the kid on time. Or found a babysitter I would have been comfortable with as he was ONLY a day old. (Goddamn cafe world. I'm totally addicted and have to pause every 5 minutes to try and save my cheeseburgers. Gah!) But I digress. Heather and I had been planning this concert since I found out about it. We go together, to almost every one. At least on my part, I believe she's gone to a few without me. A couple weeks ago, she called and told me she had the tickets and that she was bringing her friend Tricia along. I was ...

I always miss the kids

I've always been a big fan of children. I know this sounds like I'm lying, cause sometimes I really dislike children. But I've always liked my friend's children. And so many of my friends have come and gone, and I sit and wonder how their children are doing often. How my old friends themselves are doing sometimes, but sometimes friendships don't work for a reason, so I try really hard not to get too melancholy about it. I keep coming back to the kids...like I wonder how Eric is doing (Larry's kid) or how Mina (Paul's daughter) is doing (how many times did Derek call people Mina? He just didn't understand why she was gone when she left...and I don't really get any sort of response when I ask about her, so I stopped. It just makes me sad, I had a totally awesome conversation with her one night about barbies and dragons, and all sorts of things), or how Birdie is doing (besides what I read in blog form). I always thought that Val's little girl Katie...

Things my heart still needs to know

I just read Karen's letter to Derek. I know it was not addressed to me, but it was open and on the table. She is really amazing. And she is in an un-enviable position, being the person married to Jake. She has to deal with his "I forgot"s and all that. Plus, she has to tread eggshells around me. That's the impression that I get. And I feel for her. I don't want to put her in that position, but she often ends up being the middle person between Jake and I. We are both stubborn assholes and yet she deals with it. It was a very nice letter, detailing how much she misses my son. I really couldn't ask for more in a step mom. I abhorred my own step mother, and I only hope that Derek adores his. Scratch that, I know Derek likes her. It's obvious when he brings up how Karen does "this" this way, and you know what? I end up butthurt over it, when I should really be saving up these moments to share with her. Moments that would make her realize that while ki...
