He Tastes Like You, Only Sweeter

I have a theory. I've been trying to expand on it, but I just don't know if I can make it work. Two people does not really prove a theory. I was talking with someone at work the other day, and she mentioned how she'd tried really hard to be an "alternative" girl and not like pop. Funny she should mention it, cause I've been running this post through my head for months maybe. Once upon a time, I was that girl. I moved in with some friends, I was pregnant, I was not sure of myself at all. Wait, back up, it started before that. I've always loved pop. Ever since my Aunt Shari blasted Madonna in the living room while we danced around and sang out loud with it. I, almost immediately, preferred it to my mother's classic rock music (some of which might actually be ok, but I've always been contrary and a pain in the ass.) and went straight from soft rock to pop. Started listening to things like Madonna, Mariah Carey, and so on and so on. Boys II Men? LOVE...

SUBLIME!

I love me some Sublime. Not all of it, and mostly the hits, cause that's what I bought. But one I hadn't heard much on the radio might be my favorite, which maybe makes sense since it wasn't over played like much else on the radio. I really love "40 oz. to Freedom". That song just makes me want to sing along, cause it's awesome. How descriptive of me, ha! Ben hates Sublime. Which means I listen to it rarely. He considers it punishment when I put it on, so I just listen to it on my iPod, but I can't exactly sing along with it. I will mouth along with it. Which is probably pretty funny looking, but I like singing, even fake singing. I like "Saw Red" too, cause it has Gwen in the version on the greatest hits. Heather or Paul had two Sublime CDs, which I can't remember the name of either of. (Maybe I should buy more that I can only listen to occasionally. LOL) I liked those songs too, and I only realized this the other day when I heard "Bur...

My theme song?

I've been re-loving this song lately. So Unsexy by Alanis Morissette Oh these little rejections how they add up quickly One small sideways look and I feel so ungood Somewhere along the way I think I gave you the power to make Me feel the way I thought only my father could Oh these little rejections how they seem so real to me One forgotten birthday I'm all but cooked How these little abandonments seem to sting so easily I'm 13 again am I 13 for good? I can feel so unsexy for someone so beautiful So unloved for someone so fine I can feel so boring for someone so interesting So ignorant for someone of sound mind Oh these little protections how they fail to serve me One forgotten phone call and I'm deflated Oh these little defenses how they fail to comfort me Your hand pulling away and I'm devastated I can feel so unsexy for someone so beautiful So unloved and for someone so fine I can feel so boring for someone so interesting So ignorant for someone of sound mind When...

All the boys who the dance floor didn't love, and all the girls who's lips couldn't move fast enough, sing, until your lungs give out.

I FORGOT this, and it's fantastic. Ben rather sheepishly admitted the other day that he liked a Fallout Boy song. !!!??! I was astounded. I mean, I'm the one who likes pop. I'm the one who likes all the pop rock on the radio right now. Fallout Boy and the Killers, Maroon 5 and all that crap. The only songs he does like are often ones I don't. For instance, he likes the Killers "Somebody told me" song. I like almost every other one, but not that one. I don't even think I understand it. "Somebody told me that you had a boyfriend, that looked like a girlfriend, that I had in February of last year". What the hell does that mean? Are we really talking about sex changes here? Hell if I know. Lyrics must have meaning to me for me to love them. At least to an extent. Sure, I like the Fergie stuff, but the lyrics aren't exactly thought provoking. For those, I think it's more the beat that sucks me in. And I think this because I'll listen to t...

New Music

The newest songs added to my iPod are as follows: Dangerous - The Ying Yang Twins - I "stole" my liking for this song from Deanna. It's amazing what you hear when you eavesdrop. It's actually a (sort of) cover for Man Eater (Hall and Oates), at least from what I can make out. I found a clean and not so clean version. Hurray for new (dirty) music. Grace Kelly - Mika - I heard this one morning while absently "watching" music videos. It's got a distinct Queen feeling to it. Ben said that it might be a sample. I think it was on purpose, as he says.."So I tried a little Freddie...". And while I don't "do" classic rock, even I know that the lead singer for Queen is Freddie Mercury. I'm not sure why I really like this song. I'm pretty sure it's about how people don't like him, but it's more upbeat music behind it. So it doesn't even matter that no one likes him. I really like the chorus what with the..."I cou...

I got the music in me...

I have a confession to make... I LOVE pop music. I've taken a LOT of crap for this. But you know what? Pop music is POPULAR. Duh. Which means I've been taken in along with the other unsuspecting consumers who are now addicted to the pop music. And I'm really kind of fine with that. Call me crazy, but I really am. I think it started long ago. Like maybe when MTV started. Or maybe it was dancing around my aunt's living room (the COOL, YOUNGER aunt) to Madonna. Meanwhile, my mother listened to things like Meatloaf and all the classic rock she could find. I instantly gravitated away from that crap and went towards the pop. Who could blame me? I've tried a few times over the years to break the habit. I even went through my teenage emo phase were all I really listened to was NIN...though now that I'm thinking about it, I'm pretty sure I listened to Salt-N-Pepa and TLC. I'm not angry enough anymore to listen solely to NIN. And then there was the phase were ever...
