First Day of School
I think I was more excited about it than Derek was. He seemed a little nervous. We were in his class for 2 minutes when he was like....I want to go with you to get my lunches worked out.
So, we went back down the hall and waited in line. Any other day, we would have been running late (I didn't really have to get ready, so most likely, I would be the reason we are late), but today we had to wait outside until they opened up.
Then they wanted to have Derek's name on all his 20 pencils. That was a bit of a pain in the ass, but some kid had 30. And the teacher's assitant had to help him, seeing as how his parent weren't there.
I've never seen his parents. He's always like, see what I got, when he sees Derek. And there is always something new he has gotten as a present, or whatever. But, it would have made me feel better for the kid, if his parents had at least come on the first day of school.
I ran into one of my best friends from high school (kinda busy, and we didn't actually talk or anything), but her and her husband were there. I see her ocassionally, I think her son was in Kindergarden this year, so maybe I will see her picking him up too. But, that seemed really right with me, it's a special day, I can't imagine not coming in with him and helping him get settled.
To be honest, I can't imagine letting him walk to school by himself, but I see kids doing it all the time. It's astounding to me.
But, I am freaked out by everything in the world, there are scary people. If there was any way I could home school him, I might. Except school is also for learning social skills as well. It's necessary, but when he gets to Middle School, or High School, and I know he isn't going to all of his classes?
Sheer terror, people. (lopsided grin)
