Ode to my sister
You guys! Today is my sister's birthday. I know I've made a big deal
about my own, but hers is JUST as important.
She is 20! It's hard to believe, it was hard enough to believe she was
a teenager and now she isn't even that anymore.
I remember the first day I saw her. I was either visiting my dad, or I
might have been living with him at the time. But I remember that we
went somewhere and met up with my mom and step father, and my NEW BABY
SISTER.
I was SO happy. For my birthday (in my 6 year old mind), my mom had
got me a BRAND NEW SISTER. Like a living doll! So cute and cuddly. And
I think that she was actually a happy baby. So quiet and cute. I was
thrilled. I loved babies and now I could play with one.
I don't know that I actually got to play with her, but I loved her,
with all my little six year old heart. She was small and I was fiercly
protective. Still am, I suppose. My mom said that when she would have
to go and get her immunization shots, I would cry. She wouldn't even
mind much, but I would cry SO HARD cause she was being "hurt".
I didn't understand.
Unfortunately, as the years went on, I would become less amused by my
siblings. We fought quite a bit, as sisters do. We always managed to
get our stuff together with enough time that our mom would never know
what we'd managed to do. Like the broken door knob, or the broken
door, or any other number of stupid things we did while arguing when mom was gone.
Cause we rock. We managed to pull our crap together and stop fighting to avoid the greater wrath of mom. =)
I miss you so much honey. I know I say that a lot. Cause I mean it a lot. Sometimes, I could just cry for how little I would "know" you now. The adult you, not the kid you.
Anyhow, I love you and I hope you had the best birthday EVAR.
