"My Music Is Where I'd Like You To Touch"
I hate commercials. A lot. I don't even listen to the radio anymore.
So where do I get my new music?
A few places -
I subscribed to Blender, and it's given me quite a few songs I liked, including "Paper Planes" - MIA and "LDN" - Lily Allen. Every issue so far has me running to the computer to download music.
Ironically enough, I've been getting quite a few songs lately from commercials for TV. Songs such as "Music is my hot, hot sex" (referenced in the title) from the iTouch commercial. I downloaded Fiest's "1234" after seeing it on the TV, and I can't seem to get enough of "You Give Me Something" from James Morrison (currently on my MySpace), which I caught in a commercial for some channel. All I know is I keep seeing Denis Leary's face on fire in that commercial. It's weird.
More songs pop up on MTV and VH1 that I end up liking, such as Sara Barielles (which I got as a free iTune ages ago, and I've been loving it since) and Ingrid Michealson, plus some newer stuff that they played on the Rockin' New Years Eve...or whatever it's called. I really like "Hey There Delilah" after hearing it on that show. I had heard bits and pieces and never downloaded it until recently.
My work is a good place to pick up music too. The coffee bar plays things like "Oxygen" by Colbie Caillat, it's a very nice song and it's not even rap or hip hop, which I'd been listening to mostly. The girls here at Customer Service play all sorts of stuff I haven't heard, including some college rock stuff. It's good to get such a great sampling of things. Tara likes to fill me in on music too, so she keeps me in the know with the artists we both like.
I also realized yesterday that almost anything that I can find in hip hop isn't going to be entirely new. I know someone is reading this, thinking DUH, but I only just realized it.
I should have realized it when I heard the "Push It" beat in the background of "The Way I Are". Or any other of the million songs that take beats from other songs.
Last night I was surfing someone's web page and they referenced the Kanye song "Stronger" and said it was feat. Daft Punk.

How did I now know this? I've listened to a Daft Punk song or two, but I had no idea.
And it makes it better for me, since I like that part of the song, but I dislike Kanye's bloated attitude about himself. Now I can just get the "Harder, better, faster, stronger" part and get my fix.
This led to a YouTube search for Daft Punk.
This in turn led me to "Technologic", which is the part of "Touch It" remix from Busta Rhymes.
Missy sings that part in the remix, so it doesn't sound like Daft Punk obviously, but it sure is.
Makes me feel like I've been hiding under a rock, and also makes me feel like I need to find some awesome Daft Punk album.
Any suggestions from the music lovers out there?
