I got the music in me...

I have a confession to make...
I LOVE pop music.
I've taken a LOT of crap for this. But you know what? Pop music is POPULAR. Duh. Which means I've been taken in along with the other unsuspecting consumers who are now addicted to the pop music.
And I'm really kind of fine with that. Call me crazy, but I really am.
I think it started long ago.
Like maybe when MTV started. Or maybe it was dancing around my aunt's living room (the COOL, YOUNGER aunt) to Madonna. Meanwhile, my mother listened to things like Meatloaf and all the classic rock she could find. I instantly gravitated away from that crap and went towards the pop.
Who could blame me?
I've tried a few times over the years to break the habit. I even went through my teenage emo phase were all I really listened to was NIN...though now that I'm thinking about it, I'm pretty sure I listened to Salt-N-Pepa and TLC. I'm not angry enough anymore to listen solely to NIN. And then there was the phase were everyone I lived with listened to KNRQ, and so I started listening to New Rock, people like Live, and Third Eye Blind, and 311. I still like that music, but as much as I tried really hard to be cool like my roommates and solely subsist on New Rock, I yearned.
So, instead I listened to some Soft Rock with my New Rock...a sort of middle ground. Sarah McLachlan and the likes.
Again, I still like that music, I own CDs, and I listen to them occasionally. But after living on my own and getting my own sort of style that had nothing to do with copying everyone else, I realized that I kept turning my radio to 104.7. It's lighter, it's fast paced, it's more...I dunno. It's more dance-y, I guess I would say.
It's what I pick when I am cleaning the house. Or doing..anything really. When I want to be motivated by the fast pace, but not be dragged down into something heavy-hearted.
I guess when I don't really want to think.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love most music. I have classical to country to soft rock to punk to industrial to ska. And many more, I'm sure.
But things like Mariah Carey and TLC and Christina Aguilera and even Britney Spears get more of my attention. I tried SO hard not to like Britney. I didn't want any part of the bubble gum pop, but it crept into my brain (like that one girl told me an ear wig would crawl into my brain) and lo and behold, I love it.
I've been really digging on Britney Spears greatest hits and I have almost every Mariah album. Again, I get a lot of crap for that. But to those people I say this..I can't be the only person who likes Mariah. I can't be solely funding her career. It's just not possible. (which reminds me, I should buy her new one. And the new Christina Aguilera one.)
I didn't cry when Left Eye died, but I am still sad that there will be no new TLC albums. Besides the posthumous 3-D. I didn't really like that one, and I have to wonder if it's because they just used her voice and some already cut tracks, or if it just wasn't as good. For my piece of mind, I'd like to say it wasn't as good. Perhaps then I can be less sad that there will be no more. Just typing this out, I've come up with at least 3 new albums I should have, so if nothing else, it jogged my memory for albums I want.
Anyhow. This was all that was going through my brain all day while I was working and not using my full brain power.

I always thought of pop as being "effervescent" as in "soda pop" versus short for "popular."

I suppose it could be seen that way. I've always thought of it as popular. Perhaps that is just a matter of perspective though.
