Irony
The doctor gave me steroids. She thinks I'm allergic to something, something more than my common hay fever allergy. I had a hard time believing that because hay fever makes me want to claw my face off, and it makes me sneeze, a LOT.
I don't feel like that. Just the sore throat and the headaches.
So I got prednisone. My old friend. Hurray.
I read everything on the bottle and the paper the pharmacy gave me. There may be side effects, such as bigger appetite, more energy, difficulty sleeping due to the energy, and moodiness.
That's only what the doctor told me.
The side of the bottle says that "this medicine may lower my ability to fight off infections. Avoid contact with people who have contagious diseases."
Which is like half the accounting department. A lot of people were out sick at least one day last week, myself included.
The paper says it may cause stomach irritation, hand, feet, or facial swelling, and headaches.
HEADACHES? That was part of the whole fucking problem. I still have a headache today, but I do believe that my sore throat has backed the fuck off. It's not fantastic, but it's feeling much better.
I was actually looking forward to increased energy, as I've been feeling lethargic.
I'm supposed to call on Monday if I'm not feeling much better, and go in on Friday no matter what. I guess it makes sense, if it's an allergy then we need to do something about it. I can't just take steroids forever.
Good news? My lack of appetite, since my throat makes things taste bad (seriously? I've been not drinking coffee, cause it didn't taste good. THE HORROR. I LOVE coffee.) has caused a 3 pound weight loss since a month ago when I went in. Not a lot, but if I'm down then I don't get as much flak from the birth control people.
So I'll have to shell out more money. I didn't plan so well with the flexible spending account this year. I'd like to up it next year, but if I don't see the doctor as much, I have to find other ways to spend it. Sure I can stock up at the end of the year on cold medicine and stuff. So maybe I should up it anyhow.
I'm gonna sit in the bath now and then get ready to go out for sushis with Jenn. And coffee afterwards! YAY coffee! I hope the sushi is the best ever this time since I might enjoy the flavor more without the crap draining down my throat.
