“Promoting obesity”

Anyone who really believes any fat person is trying to say EVERYONE should be fat, clearly missed the point. The point is not to say we must all be fat. In my opinion the point of the whole matter is that us fatties are sick of waiting to love ourselves and our bodies. If being fat is unhealthy, well, we owe NO ONE our health. No more so than a skinny person who smokes or is unhealthy in a different way than being fat. The point is that we’re sick of people telling us about our “pretty faces” and we’re sick of people thinking they should advise us on our diets. The point is that perhaps younger people who are overweight won’t have to deal with people yelling at them out their car windows as they drive past. The point is that maybe these same people will be able to see that the world takes all kinds of people. All sizes of people. The point is that maybe no one will have crap thrown at them from cars (I have, I couldn’t tell you why. Maybe it was a mortal enemy, maybe it wasn’t because I was fat at all, but being a fatty and dealing with the disdain I’ve felt from nonfat people – I have to believe it had something to do with it.) Maybe future generations won’t have a random troll on the internet stop on their blog just to tell them they are fat on a post that was only about how much I loved the beach.

How DARE I BE FAT? How dare I believe that my fat stomach is just as good as other stomachs. How dare I want to believe that my large ass still turns heads and not just because of its grandiose size. How dare we PROMOTE OBESITY.

When children mention my stomach, or more importantly, it’s size. I say yep, it’s big. Some people have bigger stomachs, and some have smaller. I’m trying to get rid of the stigma behind the word fat. Because it’s okay to mock the fat, it’s our own fault. We did this to ourselves. But it shouldn’t be. We exist. We don’t only exist once we weigh a certain “correct” amount.

So the next time I hear about how anyone who is overweight is promoting obesity, I’m probably going to flip my lid. Everything I’ve read about dieting (and I read A LOT) basically says that everybody is different. Results aren’t the same for every person. Oh and so much for just putting the fork down. I’ve literally had friends say how I eat less than they do, so they don’t understand. ME NEITHER. Except stress causes weight gain. Not sleeping well causes weight gain. Eating processed food is worse than eating the same calories but with actual food that was made for/by you. I know I’m guilty of this. It was how I was raised. Convenience means a lot when you have a lot of mouths to feed and once I had a full time job, I really stopped cooking much at all. The few things I had taught myself to cook went by the wayside. (Except the lasagna, it’s the one page in my cookbook that falls out when it’s opened.)

I’ve gone to doctor appointments KNOWING I must have gained weight only to have lost weight. Everything I’ve been taught about food has changed with every year.
In my life, I’ve blamed many things on my weight. On my poor fat. Things that weren’t true. I’ve been loved by a wonderful person who has continued to love me at every weight I’ve been for almost 19 years at this point, even after crushing on me in high school, when I was relatively svelte, he still likes me and my fat. I have considered myself lucky that anyone would want me. I have blamed my fat for every person who I liked that didn’t like me back in quite the same way. It’s an easy scapegoat, so I get it. I get why people hate fat. I’m just sick of hating my own body. It’s a pretty good body. It may not be the best, but it holds all my organs in, it carries my fatness around fairly well. Dare I speak for all of us, when I say fatties just wanna love themselves, so thank you Lizzo!

Thank you for "promoting obesity". Please continue to show yourself and the rest of us the love we had withheld and that has been withheld prior to your glorious-ness.
